Yarnology — A Hands-On Crochet Programme
About the event
From a single strand of yarn to endless possibilities — Yarnology is a hands-on crochet programme where creativity meets logic, patience and design. Over six weeks, students in Grades 6–8 discover how simple stitches can transform into beautiful creations. From mastering foundational crochet techniques and creating geometric granny squares to designing crochet jewellery and sculpting adorable amigurumi characters, every project offers an opportunity to think, create and express.
More than just learning a craft, Yarnology nurtures focus, problem-solving, mathematical thinking, fine motor skills and confidence through meaningful, screen-free experiences. The journey culminates in a "Yarnology Gallery Walk", where students proudly showcase their handmade masterpieces and share the stories behind their creative process. Join us as we unravel the magic of transforming a single strand of yarn into something truly extraordinary.
What to bring
Enthusiasm and a willingness to learn a new craft. A notebook for patterns and stitch notes. Any crochet hooks or yarn already owned (confirm what's provided on registration). A water bottle and a small snack. Your registration confirmation.
What to expect
A structured, screen-free crochet journey across six weeks — progressing from foundational stitches and granny squares to crochet jewellery and amigurumi characters. Expect hands-on, project-based sessions that build focus, patience and mathematical thinking, ending in a Yarnology Gallery Walk where students showcase their handmade pieces.
General guidelines
For students in Grades 6–8. Dates: 13 July – 17 August 2026 (a six-week programme). Venue: Heritage Xperiential Learning School, Sector 62. Registrations are now open — register at https://xlsacademy.org/programs.aspx. Culminates in a Yarnology Gallery Walk showcasing students' creations.
